What is Kybella?

Kybella is the first and thus-far only non-surgical, injectable treatment for stubborn fat such as in the double chin. Excess fat in the neck can be caused by weight gain, age, and genetics. Kybella will permanently remove this unwanted fat. The active ingredient in Kybella is a salt found in your body that's used to digest the fat that you eat. When placed in your skin, Kybella dissolves the fat and it's removed by your body naturally over time.

What does Kybella do?

Kybella can be used to treat stubborn fat in many areas:

• The double chin (also called submental fullness)
• Bra fat below the underarms
• Stubborn fat on the belly
• The banana roll under the buttocks
  

What happens during a Kybella treatment?

Before your Kybella treatment the area to be treated will be washed and we will take pictures of you to monitor your progress. Then we apply numbing cream to the area that will be treated with Kybella and let it sit for about 15 minutes. The numbing cream is removed and the area is cleaned with special solutions to prevent infection. Dr. Alex will mark the area to be treated with Kybella. We cool the area with cold air to provide further numbing and a vibrating distractor called the Beauty Bar is placed on your skin to distract you. We will also provide you with a stress ball to hold during your Kybella treatment. Dr. Alex will place the Kybella in the skin with multiple injections. After your Kybella treatment, the area will be hot and we will cool it down for a few minutes. We will also provide you with ice packs and a strap (depending on the area treated) to take home after your Kybella treatment.

When will I see the results of my Kybella treatment?

Stubborn fat is just that, stubborn. It's hard to get rid of. It can take multiple treatments with Kybella to see results. Most people require two to four Kybella treatments to see their results. Dr. Alex recommends spacing the treatments every two to three months for best results. Dr. Alex also recommends a series of six Laser Skin Tightening treatments between your first two Kybella treatments to decrease swelling and improve your results.

How long will the results of my Kybella treatment last?

The best part about Kybella is that your results will be permanent, so you won't need maintenance treatments like you do with Botox and fillers.

What should I do after a Kybella treatment?

After a Kybella treatment, avoid heat exposure, alcohol consumption, and strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Heat exposure refers to staying outdoors for prolonged periods in the hot sun. Also avoid hot environments indoors such as a hot bath, sauna or steam room. Additionally, avoid hot or spicy foods or drinks such as soup, hot coffee, and hot tea (iced coffee and iced tea are okay). Strenuous exercise is anything that causes you to sweat or become short of breath. All of these things can increase the risk of bruising. The area that was treated with Kybella will be swollen. This is normal and it means that the Kybella is working. To decrease the swelling in the area treated with Kybella ice the area for five minutes at a time as much as possible, sleep on an extra pillow, and avoid salty foods for a few days.

Patients may not have used Accutane within the last 12 months. New patients must complete medical history paperwork and have a consultation (which may be done on the day of treatment). Patients must sign consent form for each treatment.
