Dr. Alex attended the Los Angeles Multispecialty Cosmetic Academy (LAMCA) conference from Thursday August 20, 2020 through Sunday August 23, 2020. The LAMCA is a conference that brings together physicians, nurses, and staff from various subspecialties, all of whom focus on aesthetic medicine. Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), this year the conference was virtual. One of the benefits of a virtual conference is that attendees are able to watch the videos in the comfort of their own home without arranging travel plans. The downside is that attendees are not able to meet in person with other colleagues. Dr. Alex hopes that conferences will be able to be held in person as they traditionally have been soon.
The LAMCA featured talks on a variety of different topics. These included injectables such as Botox, Voluma, and Kybella, threads, body surgery, facial rejuvenation, platelet therapy, nose rejuvenation, eye rejuvenation, skin care, and energy-based devices. Other forums also included social media and practice management. Dr. Alex was able to learn about new treatments and techniques in the field of cosmetic medicine. For example, Voluma, a dermal filler that has been used for years for mid-face rejuvenation was recently approved for chin enhancement. Placement of fillers in the chin and jawline was discussed thoroughly. Talks also included global rejuvenation off the entire lower face and neck. The LAMCA also included many live demonstrations such as for the non-surgical nose job, Botox, and laser treatments. The LAMCA conference is organized by Dr. Alex’s friend and colleague Dr. Kian Karimi. Renown speakers included Dr. Rebecca Fitzgerald, Dr. Alexander Rivkin of Westside Aesthetics in Los Angeles, CA, and Dr. Steven Weiner of The Aesthtic Clinique in Santa Rosa, FL.
Although the LAMCA was online, there was a virtual exhibit hall with companies such as Allergan (makers of Botox, Voluma, Vollure, Volbella, and Kybella), Sciton, and Alastin. Since the LAMCA conference was completely virtual this year, unfortunately Dr. Alex did not have the pleasure of networking with colleagues. However, Dr. Alex hope to have such opportunities in the near future.
The LAMCA 2020 conference was another outstanding educational opportunity and Dr. Alex looks forward to attending the conference again next year.
